Ocean Wise: Kelp Nursery (2023)

Kelp nursery located at the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre in West Vancouver, British Columbia as part of Ocean Wise’s Seaforestation initiative, which aims to protect and restore kelp forests in British Columbia and beyond. The nursery will act as a research and development hub to test novel techniques for kelp restoration. Featured on CBC/Radio-Canada and local news.

 

Ocean Wise: Seaforestation (2022-2023)

Kelp regeneration project in collaboration with Metlakatla Development Corporation and Ecotrust Canada in Ts’msyen Territory near Prince Rupert, British Columbia to restore kelp forests and strengthen relationships between people and these important marine ecosystems. Approximately 1.6 hectares of Nereocystis (bull kelp) was outplanted in March 2023.

 

Forests of the Sea (2022)

A legacy project to protect and restore kelp forests around the world through science, storytelling and policy change. This mission — in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, Mission Blue, national partners, and individual changemakers — is in line with the 30x30 target proposed by the UN Convention on Biological Diversity to protect 30% of the Earth’s biosphere by 2030.

 

Kelp Forests in Warming Waters (2021)

Research that examines the relationship between marine heatwaves and changes in the abundance and distribution of kelp forests in British Columbia, Canada based on statistical analysis in R, satellite remote-sensing with Google Earth Engine, and interviews with members of Metlakatla First Nation. Completed (awarded Distinction) as part of the MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management (BCM) at the University of Oxford. Funded by the Rhodes Trust Sir Peter Elworthy Award, BCM Dissertation Award, Lady Margaret Hall Academic Development Fund Award.

 

Oxford Pershing Square Scholarship (2020-2022)

Full scholarship for two years to support outstanding students on the 1+1 MBA at the University of Oxford. Recipients are exceptional individuals who can demonstrate the potential and commitment to finding scalable and sustainable solutions to world-scale social challenges. Funded by the Pershing Square Foundation and the University of Oxford.

 

Partnerships For Forests (2019)

Project catalyst for innovative forest conservation models that support partnerships between the private sector, public sector, and communities. Operating in West and Central Africa, East Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

 

The Present and Future of Women at Work in Canada (2019)

McKinsey & Company report that examines how well men and women are positioned for future jobs and existing gender inequalities in the workplace based on a study of over 100 organizations. Presented at the Women Deliver 2019 Global Conference and featured on national news, including The Globe and Mail and CBC.

 

McKinsey & Company: Multiple projects (2017-2019)

10+ sustainability and public sector consulting projects in North America (New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa), including:

  • Established a commercialization strategy for a global research & development leader in electric vehicle batteries

  • Developed a 10-year decarbonization strategy for a major US electric and natural gas player

  • Convened 60+ CEOs and government leaders to collaborate on cross-sector economic growth initiatives such as reskilling

  • Conducted pro-bono work with a sustainability non-profit presented to the Ontario Minister of Environment (provincial)

  • Co-authored a briefing paper for the 2018 Change for Climate Global Mayors Summit

  • Co-founded the Toronto Green Team (internal)
